Fall Children's/Teen Program

FALL CLASSES
SIX WEEKS SEPTEMBER 20-OCTOBER 29

Mondays
Masks and Faces with Lenore Lyons
Ages 8-12
Students will look at portraits and masks and notice how faces are portrayed in both primitive and contemporary art. They will learn about the structure of the face and where to place facial features. They will work with photographs and mirrors to create self portraits. Using pencils, markers, oil pastels, and paint, students will create art that reflects their own individuality both with realistic prints and drawing. They will make mixed media masks including a plaster cast of their own face.
Mondays 4-6PM
$100 plus $25 materials fee

Tuesdays
Explore Art--22 Ways to Make Art with Lenore Lyons
Ages 8-12
Students in this class will have the opportunity to have fun with their own creativity while they try many types of artist's materials that are not often used in large classroom setings. Working in a small group with plenty of individual instruction, children will explore many ways of making art. They will make collages with decorative paper. They learn about the many types of pencils, pastels and markers that artists' use for drawing. They will try painting with acrylics, watercolor and ink. They will work with masks and resists. They will explore printmaking and silk screening. Each young artist will select one thing that they will render in many different wy; this will help them focus on the process rather than the subject. Finally, they will make a book to save and present their work.
Tuesdays 4-6PM
$120 plus $30 materials fee

Wednesdays
Good Cause Journals - A Home School Enrichment Program in Philanthropy with Lenore Lyons
Grades 1-6
In this program students will learn about charitable giving and the reasons why people donate their time and money to others. They will reclaim papers from the community and use those materials to create unique journals. They will investigate charities and as a group select one or two to benefit from their efforts. They will work together to make journals: they will develop a plan to sell them. They will each use one journal to respond to directed lessons. They will record their thoughts with art and writing as they experience philanthropy. Students may be asked to do additional work at home. Parents are welcome to stay during the class.
Wednesdays 9-11AM   $120 plus $20 materials fee

Teen Oil Painting with Sarah Ahrens
Ages 13+  For all Levels
This is the perfect class for both the casually curious teen looking to be more expressive as well as the ambitious student looking to prepare an art portfolio. Working on stretched canvases, students explore the dynamic and technical qualities of oil painting, including color mixing, layering pigment and brushwork. We will explore water-soluble oil paints, which allow students the wonderful experience of traditional oil painting without the toxic qualities of this medium. Through the guidance of a high school certified art teacher, each student's creative expression and skill development will be encouraged in a supportive learning environment.
*In addition to class time, students may request an individual portfolio critique with Sarah outside of class.

Thursdays
Artsy Journals for Parents and Children Together with Lenore Lyons
For Home Schoolers Grades 1-6
Learn Together! Experience a playful class that includes art and writing in a journal that you make yourself. Be surprised each week by a prompto project designed to inspire creativity. We will cut, tear, glue, paint, draw and write. We may sew, fold or add pop-up pages. We may poke holes, sew paper and make pockets for special things. There will be rubber stamps, markers, pens and pencils for writing. There will be lots of materials provided to use and have fun with and you can add thngs of your own if you would  like. At times parents and children will work side by side and at other times they will work separately.
Thursdays 1-3PM 
$120 plus $30 materials fee

Let's Mess Around with Artsy Journals with Lenore Lyons
Ages 8-12
This is the first class of the Mess Around series. Learn how to make a fun book to tell your story. Experience an art and writing class for elementary children of all ability levels. Each session will begin with an art prompt and ideas meant to inspire and get your creativity flowing. We will cut, tear, glue, paint, draw and write. We may poke holes, sew paper and make pockets for special things. There will be rubber stamps, markers, pens and pencils for writing. There will be lots of materials provided to use and have fun with and you can add things of your own if you'd like.
Thursdays 4-6PM  $120 plus $30 materials fee
