f. ROBERT MESROP Robert Mesrop's paintings have been exhibited in New York City, upstate New York, New Jersey, Boston, Vermont and Cape Cod. His paintings are in private collections throughout the Northeast. He was featured in AMERICAN ARTIST magazine, and he has received top awards for his work.
Robert received his Bachelor's Degree, with honors, from the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. During 22 years of advertising in NYC, he was an Art Director at J Walter Thompson, and at Kenyon and Eckhardt. His advertising schedule was challenging, but he always found time to paint and teach drawing and watercolor classes.
In 1987 Robert left the advertising world and moved to the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York. The area's mountains, mists, clouds and waters provided inspiration and concepts for many of Robert's paintings. He then moved to Eastern North Carolina before settling on Cape Cod. He now enjoys interpreting the waterways, marshes, towns and back roads of the eastern seaboard.
Changing lights and shadows fascinates Robert. He paints to capture these moments in time. The freshness and luminosity of watercolor make it the perfect medium.
Although he also works in oils, pen and ink, and other media, Robert's primary media is watercolor. He says, "It requires discipline, planning and forethought. I try to work through the painting mentally so that I can approach the paper with the spontaneity that is the hallmark of the medium. I am continually watching for fortunate accidents which I can utilize in my paintings."
Robert has taught painting in New Jersey, conducted watercolor workshops and drawing classes in North Carolina. He was also the President of the Adirondack Art Association.
Robert is a former board member of CCAA and is also a member of the Creative Art Center of Chatham and the Yarmouth Art guild. He lives in Marstons Mills.
